Operations Manager - Mortgage

Our client is seeking an experienced Mortgage Operations Manager to join their growing company. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing the company's loan process to include underwriting, closing and funding.   

*Please note, this is an in-office position. Must be commutable to the office, remote work is not offered for this opportunity*
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Establishes goals and objectives for the department Operations function.
  • Manage all operation departments by possessing and demonstrating strong supervisory skills.
  • Responsible for remaining updated on all investor, agency, FHA, VA, and Loan guideline changes along with any overlays.
  • Mentor and coach assigned underwriters, closers and funders.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all necessary criteria for specific loan types, products, rates and fee structures.
  • Monitors workflows and department metrics to increase service levels while increasing staff productivity without sacrificing quality or increasing risk.
  • Ensures that all relevant policies, procedures, internal controls and processes are kept up-to-date and meet all regulatory and other requirements.
  • Escalates in a meaningful and expedient way appropriate compliance and regulatory concerns.
  • Monitors file flow to ensure SLA's are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Ensure loans are originated and closed in compliance with the underwriter's approval as well as all federal and state regulations.
  • Manage and redistribute workload when necessary to maintain established service levels and ensure a positive customer service experience.
  • Monitoring daily, weekly and monthly production reports
  • Allowing constant accessibility to take on immediate issues/concerns which need immediate attention.
  • Full understanding of all Product Types (FHA, VA, Conventional & USDA)
  • Ensures that all relevant policies, procedures, internal controls and processes are kept up-to-date and meet all regulatory and other requirements.
  • This position oversees operations managers and assigned their staff.

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of business administration as it applies to a large organization.

  • Familiar with a variety of mortgage banking concepts, practices and procedures. Working knowledge of compliance regulations

  • Strong problem-solving skills.
Required Education and Experience
  • Currently working with a Correspondent Lender or Direct Lender. Note: Not from a bank
  • Operations manager for at least 5 years
  • DE and Conventional underwriting experience with at least 5 years
  • Bank loan, Mortgage loan compliance experience is a plus.
  • Experience working within a Closing Department.
  • Experience with several investors guidelines
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Demonstrated success in coaching and motivating a team.
  • The equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
