On-Site Loan Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY: Maintains the loan system and general ledger to ensure complete and accurate financial statements.  This includes activities such as daily loan accounting, cash management, nonaccrual accounting, participation accounting, reconciliations, OPOs, the monthly close process, quarterly and annual financial reporting tasks, loan system maintenance, tax reporting, etc. Functions under minimal supervision. Regularly provides guidance and training to less experienced loan accountants and may be designated to serve in team-lead role.
Areas of responsibility include:
Processes: which may include but are not limited to:
  • General Loan Accounting, Cash Management, Reconciliations, Participation Accounting, Auxiliary Loan Accounting, Nonaccrual Accounting
Journal Entry Processing and Account Reconciliations: 
  • Advanced overall understanding for general ledger accounts, including source, mechanics, and subsequent ramifications.
  • Processing of routine to complex general ledger transactions, while ensuring appropriate documentation and compliance with procedures. 
  • Properly and timely preparation of assigned account reconciliations with identification, research, correction, and documentation of all exceptions.
Reporting:
  • Responsible for creation, verification, research, correction, and documentation of reports, including but not limited to the preparation of internal reports related to special assets processing.
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or business related concentration. 
  • Generally, eight or more years of general accounting/loan accounting experience preferred. 
  • Possess strong communications skills, both written and oral to represent the Association in a professional manner. 
  • Ability to initiate, organize and prioritize work required. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application to the function performed with Farm Credit. 
  • Must possess analytical skills that are inherently required in an accounting/financial environment.
  • Must possess problem-solving skills necessary to solve routine accounting problems and make routine decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects/assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Superior understanding of loan accounting processes preferred. 
  • Adaptable and flexible to a changing work environment.
