Position Overview:
The Remote Underwriting Manager will oversee and manage the underwriting team, ensuring efficient, accurate, and consistent evaluation of loan applications for construction, bridge, and fix-and-flip projects. The successful candidate will bring in-depth knowledge of private money lending practices and possess strong leadership skills to guide the team in a remote environment. This role demands the ability to assess risk effectively while ensuring that all loans align with company guidelines and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor the underwriting team, ensuring adherence to policies and maintaining efficiency in a remote environment.
- Loan Underwriting: Oversee underwriting of construction, bridge, and fix-and-flip loans, assessing financials, credit reports, appraisals, and project feasibility.
- Risk Management: Evaluate loan risk and structure to align with company guidelines, recommending adjustments when necessary to mitigate risk.
- Process Improvement: Continuously streamline underwriting processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and borrower experience.
- Collaboration: Work with sales, loan origination, and servicing teams to ensure smooth loan approvals and clear communication.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure adherence to legal requirements, maintain accurate documentation, and report on underwriting performance and team metrics.
- Training & Development: Provide ongoing coaching and development to the underwriting team to stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
Qualifications:

Experience:
- 7+ years of underwriting experience in private money lending, with a focus on construction loans, bridge loans, and fix-and-flip loans.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing an underwriting team, preferably in a remote environment.

Skills & Expertise:
- Strong understanding of real estate finance, including construction, bridge, and fix-and-flip loan structures.
- Ability to evaluate complex loan applications, including financial statements, appraisals, and construction budgets.
- Familiarity with underwriting software and loan origination systems (LOS).
- Expertise in assessing borrower risk and project viability, including knowledge of after-repair value (ARV) calculations and renovation cost estimations.

- Proven experience managing and motivating teams, driving performance, and developing talent.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced remote environment.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly explain underwriting decisions and complex loan structures to both internal teams and external clients.
- Collaborative approach with the ability to work cross-functionally with sales, loan origination, and servicing teams.
