Our client emerging private money lending firm based in Coral Gables, specializing in Non-QM (Non-Qualified Mortgage) loans and real estate investment loans. Their goal is to provide tailored and flexible financing solutions for real estate investors and individuals who do not fit into traditional lending frameworks.
Job Overview:
The Underwriter will play a critical role in evaluating, analyzing, and approving loan applications for Non-QM and real estate investment loans. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of underwriting guidelines for Non-QM loans, including complex income sources and real estate investment transactions. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to assess risk in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and assess loan applications and related documentation to determine borrower eligibility and loan risk.
- Underwrite Non-QM loans, real estate investment loans, and other non-traditional mortgage products, ensuring compliance with internal policies and industry regulations.
- Analyze financial documents, including tax returns, bank statements, appraisals, credit reports, and property evaluations.
- Make decisions on loan approval, conditions, or declines based on comprehensive risk analysis.
- Collaborate with loan processors, brokers, and borrowers to clarify information and address any concerns.
- Provide clear and detailed explanations of underwriting decisions and conditions to team members and clients.
- Ensure all loans meet company standards and compliance requirements before approval.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes, industry best practices, and market trends.
- Assist in the development and refinement of underwriting guidelines and procedures.
- Manage a pipeline of loans to ensure timely and accurate decision-making.
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of underwriting experience with Non-QM loans and/or real estate investment loans.
- In-depth understanding of Non-QM underwriting guidelines and complex loan structures.
- Familiarity with private money lending, alternative lending products, and real estate investment financing.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and mitigate risk.
- Proficiency in underwriting software, MS Office Suite (Excel, Word), and LOS (Loan Origination Systems).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex decisions clearly to clients and team members.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with alternative underwriting software platforms.
- Familiarity with investor-funded loans and real estate investment strategies.
- Knowledge of government and investor guidelines (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, etc.).
