Senior Loan Underwriter (Senior Program Manager) – Hybrid | New York
Our client, a not-for-profit mortgage lender dedicated to supporting affordable homeownership in New York, is seeking an experienced Senior Loan Underwriter (Senior Program Manager) to join their Lending/Servicing team. This is a hybrid role intended for candidates within commuting distance of their office.
The ideal candidate will bring deep residential underwriting expertise along with a commitment to supporting homeowners across New York, particularly in underserved communities.
Maintain established underwriting SLAs and ensure compliance with SONYMA, FNMA, and Freddie Mac guidelines
Approve, decline, or suspend residential mortgage loan submissions
Review and validate credit, liabilities, fraud, and property documentation
Ensure compliance with CFPB, RESPA, TRID, REG Z, and fair lending requirements
Track and report on end-to-end pipeline management in collaboration with leadership
Work closely with internal stakeholders to expedite underwriting and closing timelines
Assist with title corrections, QC checks, and closings as needed
Provide responsive, professional communication to homeowners, housing counselors, and partners
Enter accurate data into systems to maintain integrity and compliance
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in residential mortgage underwriting
10+ years of experience as a residential underwriter or underwriting manager (bank, credit union, mortgage lender, or CDFI)
Proven expertise with mortgage loan documents, guidelines, and closing policies
Advanced analytical skills and ability to manage complex files
Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and familiarity with Byte or comparable LOS and Salesforce
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
Passion for promoting affordable homeownership and supporting underserved communities
Salary range: $82,000 – $90,000
