Senior Loan Underwriter (Senior Program Manager) – Hybrid | New York

Our client, a not-for-profit mortgage lender dedicated to supporting affordable homeownership in New York, is seeking an experienced Senior Loan Underwriter (Senior Program Manager) to join their Lending/Servicing team. This is a hybrid role intended for candidates within commuting distance of their office.

The ideal candidate will bring deep residential underwriting expertise along with a commitment to supporting homeowners across New York, particularly in underserved communities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain established underwriting SLAs and ensure compliance with SONYMA, FNMA, and Freddie Mac guidelines

  • Approve, decline, or suspend residential mortgage loan submissions

  • Review and validate credit, liabilities, fraud, and property documentation

  • Ensure compliance with CFPB, RESPA, TRID, REG Z, and fair lending requirements

  • Track and report on end-to-end pipeline management in collaboration with leadership

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to expedite underwriting and closing timelines

  • Assist with title corrections, QC checks, and closings as needed

  • Provide responsive, professional communication to homeowners, housing counselors, and partners

  • Enter accurate data into systems to maintain integrity and compliance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in residential mortgage underwriting

  • 10+ years of experience as a residential underwriter or underwriting manager (bank, credit union, mortgage lender, or CDFI)

  • Proven expertise with mortgage loan documents, guidelines, and closing policies

  • Advanced analytical skills and ability to manage complex files

  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and familiarity with Byte or comparable LOS and Salesforce

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment

  • Passion for promoting affordable homeownership and supporting underserved communities

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $82,000 – $90,000

  • Comprehensive benefits package
