Position: Mortgage Operations Director
Location: Lubbock, Texas
Work Model: Hybrid preferred. Remote may be considered for candidates residing in Texas, with occasional travel to the office for meetings and company events.
Compensation: $105,000-$125,000 base salary, no bonus at this time
Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, generally 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

Overview
This role serves as the senior operational leader for a mortgage platform and is responsible for the end-to-end execution, scalability, and performance of mortgage operations. The position oversees how loans move from application through post-closing, with a strong focus on operational excellence, sound risk management, team leadership, and a strong borrower and employee experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership across underwriting, processing, closing, post-closing, quality control, and lock desk operations.
- Build and maintain an operational structure that supports growth while protecting quality, compliance, and culture.
- Establish clear ownership, escalation paths, and performance expectations across operational teams.
- Guide the transition from hands-on execution to a sustainable leader-led operating model.
- Oversee underwriting capacity planning, workflow segmentation, and exception frameworks.
- Drive improvements in turn times, throughput, and quality by optimizing workflows and accountability.
- Oversee quality control, defect trends, audit outcomes, and corrective action planning.
- Support lock desk operations and investor delivery while maintaining alignment with secondary market execution requirements.
- Partner with executive leadership on staffing strategy, hiring, development, retention, and technology readiness.
- Own operational reporting across quality, capacity, cost, turn times, and borrower experience metrics.
- Coach and develop senior operational leaders while building a culture of accountability, clarity, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of mortgage industry experience with progressive leadership responsibility.
- Leadership experience within mortgage operations at a credit union, bank, or mortgage company.
- Strong background in systems thinking, operational analytics, and process design.
- Experience leading change, modernizing operations, and improving legacy workflows.
- Strong people leadership skills, including experience managing senior leaders.
- Comfort working in a growth-oriented, performance-driven environment.
- Proficiency in Encompass, Optimal Blue, and Microsoft Office.
