Retail Underwriter - Mortgage

Livermore, CA
Our client is seeking an experienced Retail Mortgage Underwriter to join their growing company

  • Review and evaluate credit reports, preliminary report, judgments, bankruptcy documents, appraisals, and income documentation
  • Must underwrite & approve 7-8 conforming loans and 5-6 jumbo loans per day
  • Perform DU//LP/Assetwise and investor underwriting findings; create loan conditions; prepare and mail conditional approval letter/NOI per Regulation B/ECOA
  • Analyze & calculate income documentation such as personal and business income statements, and make sure all necessary documentation is requested to support final loan decisions
  • Contact client to review loan program and conditions
  • Follow up on appraisals and any outstanding conditions (i.e. demands, insurance, etc.)
  • Responsible for a pipeline of 40-45 loans
  • Schedule loan signing appointment with clients, and coordinates with internal or external notaries
  • Perform Verbal Verification of Employment on borrower, if applicable
  • Contact client via phone, e-mail on a regular basis
  • Pre-underwrite and approve complex loans on all conforming and jumbo products
  • Train Fulfillment Specialist I on how to underwrite complex loans
  • Assist Loan Processing Manager and Director of department on special projects
  • Assist Loan Processing Manager in developing standard operating procedures for Loan Processing 
  • Research, follow up 
  • Outbound Calls, other projects assigned by management      
  • Bachelors degree in business, accounting, finance; or 5 years related experience in processing mortgage loans
  • 5 years of investor loan originating and processing or closing experience, real estate sales, or commercial lending experience of 2 years must be in loan processing or originating
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to handle competing priorities effectively and within established timeframes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and positive attitude
  • Prior customer service experience in a mortgage environment is required
  • Experience working with a Windows-based computer environment, working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledgeable in automated underwriting systems (DU/LP/Assetwise) is preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, and other investor lending guidelines required
    Knowledge in Loan Origination System such as Empower a plus
  • Bi-lingual a plus
